Bono Film & Video Super 8 and Regular 8mm Home Movie Service Agreement

Please read the following carefully.
Your signature on the order form covers your acceptance of the conditions and terms listed below.

  • Our transfer is a Rank MarkIIIC telecine transfer coupled to a Pogle digital color corrector. Therefore we have some latitude to control exposure and color. For more information on our transfer system and options visit the Transfer Options Diagram.
  • Prep/inspect/compile is charged at $.08 per foot. The telecine transfer fee is $3.00 per minute of viewing or runtime. (60 minutes = $180.00). The minimum transfer rate is $75 if you send in less than 375 feet of Super 8 or Regular 8.
  • Expect at least 1 hour of lab labor fee at $35.
  • You have four choices for your master videotape: Mini DV, DV CAM, Digital Betacam, and Beta SP or we can transfer direct to hard drive. We do not master to VHS tape.  If we transfer direct to hard drive at 30fps to eliminate the 3:2 pulldown, the transfer charge per minute is $3.35.
  • Client reels will be assembled onto larger projection film reels in the order given by the client. The cleaned and transferred film will be returned on these larger reels in matching cans. The client will pay for the necessary reel/can sets which cost $6.85 per archival set. We do break down and return the film onto the original reels. The procedure invites dust and damage.
  • Focus is not guaranteed on any rolls since all cameras were very different. In other words, we cannot correct for footage that was shot out of focus. We set focus at the beginning of the reel and ride the focus throughout the roll. If the focus needs to be checked after the job has been completed we will charge an additional $10.00 per roll to recheck the focus of any roll in question. A maximum of 15 minutes will be allowed per this $10.00 charge.
  • Shrinkage, distortion, emulsion flaking, discoloration, jumping at splices, lost camera loops (picture rolling), and various other defects can be expected with old home movies. These defects vary greatly from job to job depending on the processing techniques normally used at time of development and how the film was stored over time.
  • We are not responsible for any scratches that are on the film when it enters our facility.
  • If the film splices come apart in transfer or if the reels run over the allotted time on a master tape, we will overlap the content so you are assured that all footage has been transferred.
  • We are able to transfer audio that may have been recorded on the magnetic sound stripe; however, the presence of  mag stripes on your film does not guarantee that audio was recorded OR that the audio signal is still playable. The charge is $35 per 400 foot roll to check for and record any sound that we find.
  • There will be no refunds or discounts for any of the above defects or occurrences. It is not always possible to anticipate how old footage will behave during the transfer process. If we decide that the job is not economically or physically feasible we will alert the client before proceeding. A nominal inspection fee will be charged depending on the extent of the inspection. The fee will not exceed $50.00 for the inspection.
  • Clients with Polavision, the Polaroid self-processing Super 8 product, will be required to pay additional lab labor fees to break open the cases. We reserve the right to decide not to transfer the footage if we determine that it has deteriorated beyond the point being salvageable.
  • If the client is not satisfied with the completed job no refunds will be given. It must be understood that we will make every effort to do a professional job on a non-professional format.
  • Videotapes are a fragile medium also. We use a professional grade videotape, however, there is no guarantee on the life of your videotape given that we have no control over the condition of your playback machine. We recommend that you buy a "backup" copy.

Most home movies were shot at 18 frames per second; therefore, the default frame rate for transfer is 18 frames per second unless otherwise specified on the order form.
