How it works

These are unsupervised sessions based on labor time (not runtime). In a scene-to-scene color correction session settings are established for each change in a roll before the actual telecine transfer takes place. Changes that require new set-ups include variations in lighting, filtration, exposure, speed or stock. The senior colorist or telecine operator is aiming for consistency as the entire roll is examined.  Scene-to-scene correction is often chosen to “clean up” a print for broadcast,  for festival distribution or for integration into a project destined for a film out or film release. Some directors prefer timing of their camera original footage. For original footage, shooting “chip” charts or grayscale at the beginning of rolls or scene changes and filling out camera reports are recommended.

Take the  hourly fees for standard definition ($270 per hour) or high definition ($715 per hour) as posted on our websites. The charges for scene-to-scene are calculated on labor time,  which is the actual time it took our colorist to perform the corrections through the footage. Given that the entire roll is studied and marked before transfer, you should estimate that an average session will last three times the actual runtime. All other costs, such as prep at $.08 per foot or charges for the tapeless service fee or tape stock are as posted on the price lists.

The minimum order is three times the runtime with a 15-minute minimum.

The final labor total could vary dramatically as the correction is dependent on the number of set up changes required.

Please note: unsupervised means that the output is based on our senior colorist’s seasoned expertise.

Other telecine transfer options based on runtime:

  • Best light for high definition and standard telecine transfers to drive or tape.

  • Flat transfer for high definition to drive or tape.

For standard definition:

$225 for the transfer of a roll running 15 minutes or less (3 x $75)

$810 for the transfer of a film running one hour (3 x $ 270)

For high definition:
$534 for the transfer of a roll running  15 minutes or less (3 x $178)

$2145 for the transfer of a film running one hour (3 x $715)
